Australia Voices Concern Over Escalating US–Iran Tensions After Airstrikes

(MENAFN) Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said he is “very worried” about the rising tensions in the Middle East following new US airstrikes on Iran, according to reports.

Speaking in an interview, Albanese said the situation is concerning due to both humanitarian and economic risks, warning that continued escalation could have wide global consequences.

“We're very worried both about the human impact, of course, that comes with war, but also the economic impact that is having a massive effect on the global economy and will get worse rather than better,” he said, according to a transcript released by his office.

He also reaffirmed Canberra’s position calling for restraint, emphasizing the need for a “de-escalation” of hostilities in the region, according to reports.
